Giffords Circus, “the nation’s most glamorous troupe” Sunday Telegraph, are seeking musicians for the 2024 show, Avalon.
We are a travelling circus, performing around the commons and stately homes of the Cotswolds to thousands of people each year. We go from Stroud to London and back again.
The show, directed by the “one man laugh factory” Guardian, Cal McCrystal, combines circus and theatre with a strong musical element.
We will be playing and devising a score of original music mixed with arrangements, drawing on medieval music and British psychedelia.
We are primarily looking for saxophone players, guitarists, bassists and pianists, but are very open to other ideas. Doubling musicians are especially sought.
You will be an integral part of the whole show; an energetic and enthusiastic approach to performance is a must.
The auditions will be in London on 16th-18th December. Please bring 2-3 contrasting pieces, and be prepared to improvise or sight-read. A piano accompanist and facility for backing tracks will be provided.
The 2024 season will be from 26 February until 29th September, including four weeks of catered rehearsals at full pay. You will be performing in an international troupe of jugglers, acrobats, horses, clowns and dogs in a tent you have helped put up yourself. Accommodation provided in the form of a vintage circus wagon or bunk.
There may also be opportunities for further work with us both in future seasons and in the off period in between.
