Nell Gifford's Art
“Painting and drawing is something I do to relax and recover, and I love it. I believe that if you draw things, they come true.” – Nell Gifford 2018.
Nell Gifford’s artwork was either produced whilst on tour; depicting various scenes directly observed of circus life, or in her studio at Fennells Farm where her many sketches and photographs could be referenced and interpreted.
In the last year of her life she fearlessly experimented with colour and texture, producing beautifully rich and dynamic drawings and paintings with inks and washes, and at times, even raw pigment, on a journey away from- and then back to- oil paint.
This decision to loosen up her approach and concentrate on a freer and less rigid mode of expression while incorporating words and phrases; fragments that float beside and mingle with the colours and textures of the paint, resulted in paintings and drawings that feel playful as well as profound.
Nell’s solo exhibition, which was held posthumously at Olympia Auctions, was a bittersweet celebration of Nell’s painting and this incredibly prolific addition to her legacy.
The artworks shown here represent the entirety of that exhibition catalogue and can be purchased as quality Giclée prints. These reproductions are printed to order so please allow up to two weeks for delivery.
