We are seeking musicians for the 2022 season…
Giffords Circus is performs to over 100,000 people a year, throughout the Cotswolds to London and back again.
The show, Carpa! directed by the “one man laugh factory” (Guardian) Cal McCrystal, combines circus and theatre with a strong musical element.
We will be devising a score based on the traditional music of Mexico: huasteco, banda, jarocho, mariachi, bolero, cumbia..
We are looking for the following instruments:
Brass
Violin/Piano
Guitar/Bass
Accordion
Drums/Percussion
Or any combination of the above..
AND
Spanish-language vocalists (preferably with strong playing ability on at least one instrument)
A knowledge of and love for traditional Mexican repertoire would a great plus. Pre-formed bands will also be considered.
We are looking for musicians with several years professional playing experience behind them.
You will be an integral part of the whole show; an energetic and enthusiastic approach to performance is a must.
The auditions will be in London on 19th/20th December. Please bring 2-3 contrasting pieces, and be prepared to improvise or sight-read. A piano accompanist and facility for backing tracks will be provided.
The season will be from 21st March to 3rd October, including three weeks of rehearsals, as well as a development week in February at full pay. We perform an average of 11 shows per week, with one day off per week.
You will be performing in an international troupe of jugglers, contortionists, acrobats, horses, clowns and chickens in a tent you have helped put up yourself. Accommodation is provided in the form of a circus wagon or bunk. All meals are provided during rehearsals.
