Nell is always close to us here at Giffords Circus. Her photos and art adorn the walls of our office, and for those of us blessed to have worked with her, her influence echoes through the work that we do. Her voice, passion and creativity etched into our hearts.
Nell Gifford’s 50th birthday is today, 24th January 2023, and we all wanted to do something special to mark the occasion and commemorate her in a way that would also help others. Nell was fiercely passionate about supporting local charities and the communities that we visit on tour each year and it was Maggie’s where she personally turned to for support when she received her cancer diagnosis.
We are incredibly proud to announce Maggie’s will be our charity for 2023 season and we will support Maggie’s by raising awareness and money for their work in providing free cancer support and information in centres across the UK and online. We will continue this tradition by choosing a different charity each year on Nell’s birthday.
To celebrate Nell’s birthday and kick off this year of support, Giffords Circus is donating tickets to Maggie’s to give to their centre visitors that they are currently supporting. There will be lots of fundraising initiatives throughout the year and we can’t wait to get involved and learn more about the support that Maggie’s provides.
“Giffords Circus is a very special place to Maggie’s and we are delighted to be working in partnership in 2023 in fond memory of Nell. It is thanks to fundraising support like this that our doors remain open to provide free support to anyone living with cancer, their family and friends. We are very grateful for their generosity already and really excited to see what this year will bring.”

About Maggie’s
Maggie’s is a charity that provides free cancer support and information in our local centre in Cheltenham, for anyone living with cancer, their family and friends throughout Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and beyond.
Our centre is a place to find practical advice including money worries support; for emotional support; to share experiences with others in a similar situation around the kitchen table; or just to sit quietly with a cup of tea.
Our unique programme of support is provided by an expert team, including cancer support specialists, psychologists and benefits advisors. Maggie’s has been shown to strengthen the physical and emotional wellbeing of people living with cancer and their family and friends.
“Maggie’s provided me with a refuge – a sanctuary – part of the real world but somehow detached. The world hadn’t changed but cancer had totally changed who I was and I needed help to learn how to live again.”
Isobel, Maggie’s visitor
