We were delighted to watch Tweedy the Clown presented with his British Empire Medal (BEM) by the King’s representative in Gloucestershire, Lord Lieutenant Edward Gillespie OBE DL in the Giffords Circus tent last week. Tweedy was awarded this medal in the new King’s first ever New Year’s honours list in January and we believe it to be the first awarded to a clown for both services to circus and community.
Tweedy made a grand entrance, being lowered down from the ceiling of the tent by winch, and Edward’s quick witted response to this rather surprising entrance from above was, “I can’t wait to see the exit!” We think this is a double act just waiting to happen. We are all so very proud of Tweedy BEM.
